Role Overview The Privacy, AI and Data Responsibility (“PAIR”) team is looking for Senior Vice President (“SVP”), Assistant General Counsel, responsible for leading our privacy, AI and data responsibility program in Europe. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for supporting our Integrated Marketing & Communications (“IMC”) team as well as our Mastercard Strategic Growth (“MSG”) team globally from a privacy, AI and data responsibility perspective. This role reports to the Executive Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer, AI and Data Responsibility, and is part of the Europe General Counsel Management Team. The SVP, Assistant General Counsel, leads a team of PAIR professionals. The role is based in Waterloo, Belgium. Responsibilities include • Provide strategic leadership on any topic relating to privacy, data and AI in Europe, or as they apply to IMC or MSG. • Oversee and assess shifts in legislative or regulatory requirements—such as privacy, artificial intelligence, data sharing, cybersecurity, data localization, digital sovereignty – in Europe or as impacting IMC or MSG globally; engage with policymakers, regulators and other key stakeholders to explain and represent Mastercard’s interests; develop and implement plans to implement new requirements and track progress until completion. • As part of Privacy by Design, advise on product and tech design and on implementation of adequate controls and risk mitigants. • Lead or provide expert counsel on key privacy, AI or data responsibility matters impacting Europe and/or IMC and/or MSG globally, including but not exclusively: complex contract negotiations, incident responses, government data requests, regulators or activists’ requests or investigations, data subject complaints and data requests, employee data requests, customer inquiries and audits, as well as data-driven internal and external communications. • Maintain risk register relating to privacy, AI and data risks impacting Europe or IMC or MSG globally, and report to appropriate risk forums, in collaboration with our Governance, Risk & Compliance team. • Oversee the Europe Data Protection Office which is responsible for: informing and advising the organization of their obligations under the GDPR and local EU Member State data protection laws; monitoring compliance with data protection legislation and the company's internal policies, including managing the assignment of responsibilities, awareness-raising, and training of staff involved in processing operations; acting as the primary point of contact and collaborating with the EU supervisory authorities. • Build, coach, and scale a high performing, multi jurisdictional team; define roles, competencies, and career paths; establish clear goals, performance routines, and a common culture of collaboration. All About You • Law degree from an accredited law school, and admitted to and in good standing with at least one bar. Any additional qualifications (e.g. Master of Laws degree) considered an asset • Deep expertise and hands-on knowledge of international data privacy laws, especially the GDPR, as well as other data-related and cybersecurity legal matters. • Strategic thinker, ability to connect the dots, proactive, and thought provoker. • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including executives and Board members, as well as auditors, policymakers and regulators. • Business-minded, solutions-oriented, and pragmatic problem solver, working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. • Must be able to work independently and take ownership of the space but also collaboratively with other team members. • Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering; must work well in both team and individual settings. • Ability to work well as part of a team of geographically dispersed highly skilled professionals.
