Summary : Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated individual to manage operations of our new state-of-the-art electron microscopy suite featuring a Titan Krios G5 as part of the Structural Biology team in San Diego, CA. The candidate will support a collaborative group of protein scientists, structural biologists, computational scientists, and interdisciplinary collaborators across a range of research programs. A strong background in protein sciences or molecular biology is essential for effective communication and program impact. Candidates must have robust expertise in biological cryoEM workflows and structural biology, with proven ability to coordinate complex projects in an industry setting. The candidate will also facilitate integration with our New Jersey EM site by aligning workflows, maintaining consistent standards and data management across teams. The candidate should be well-connected to developments in the field and able to implement new EM technologies as they emerge. Scientific rigor, critical thinking, excellent communication, and creativity are required. Responsibilities : Maintaining day-to-day operations of the San Diego cryoEM facility, including oversight of the sample preparation equipment, Krios G5 microscope, IT/data management, and ensuring optimal data quality and analyses. Maintaining close coordination with ThermoFisher Scientific service engineers and support teams to ensure optimal instrument performance, proactive maintenance, and rapid troubleshooting for the Krios G5 system and associated sample preparation devices. Training and mentoring scientists in single particle cryoEM sample preparation, data collection, and image analysis. Leveraging a strong foundation in protein sciences and/or molecular biology to communicate effectively with research scientists, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and drive program impact. Providing technical support and troubleshooting to facilitate protein structure determination for drug discovery projects, spanning soluble proteins, membrane proteins, glycoproteins, and other modalities. Coordinating EM workflows with the BMS New Jersey site to ensure alignment of scheduling, standards, and data management. Implementing, adapting, and optimizing single particle workflows in addition to developing and implementing new methodologies such as micro-ED and cryo-ET. Ensuring compliance with electronic lab notebooks, safety standards, and corporate policies. Interfacing with project leads in Disease Biology, Translational Research, Protein Sciences, Biophysics, and Computational-Aided Drug Design to enable structure-guided drug discovery research. Presenting project results and workflow innovations in cross-functional meetings, with a critical eye for both persuasive argumentation and collective progress. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or Master’s Degree with 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biophysics or related stream with 2+ years of academic and / or industry experience Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline with 2+ years in laboratory-based research, ideally within an industry environment. Minimum 3-5 years hands-on experience operating and maintaining electron microscopes for biological studies, with particular emphasis on high-end cryoEM platforms (Krios, Talos, etc.). Demonstrated expertise in single particle cryoEM sample preparation, data collection, and image processing on a wide spectrum of biological specimens, including soluble and membrane proteins, glycoproteins, and complex assemblies. Track record supporting and troubleshooting biological and pharmaceutical projects; familiarity with medicinal chemistry and the drug discovery pipeline is strongly recommended. Experience coordinating multi-site workflows and balancing multi-project demands. Strong publication record demonstrating use of cryoEM to derive mechanisms of action. Excellent written and oral communication skills; highly organized and able to juggle multiple concurrent projects.  The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience.
