You’ll partner closely with our engineers and scientists worldwide to uncover breakthrough ideas, protect cutting-edge technologies, and help shape our global IP strategy. If you’re someone who thrives on taking initiative, building multidisciplinary relationships, expanding your technical expertise, and translating complex technical concepts into strategic IP assets, this is the role for you. What You’ll Do Connect with Innovators Engage directly with inventors worldwide to explore new ideas and uncover/record patentable innovations. Develop and maintain connections with R&D and the Technology Office to understand complex technologies and assess their strategic and commercial value. Partner across the business to align IP protection with technology initiatives and product development. Safeguard Innovation Collaborate with inventors and outside counsel to refine invention disclosures and patent applications to strengthen patent filings. Review patent applications and coordinate with outside counsel during prosecution. Perform IP clearance activities, including freedom-to-operate, patentability and prior-art searches, to counsel and guide the business and support new product development. Conduct infringement and validity analyses, identifying design-around options and risk mitigations. Support IP enforcement, defense, and patent challenges (e.g., reviews, re-exams, oppositions). Champion IP Awareness Across the Company Lead IP brainstorming and invention workshops with R&D teams. Deliver engaging IP training to empower technical and business teams to think innovatively and strategically. What You Bring 5+ years of technical experience in a field related to Lumentum’s products. An excitement to continue expanding your knowledge of fundamental photonic and electronic technologies. 4+ years of experience with patents and intellectual property – a legal degree is an asset but is not required. A proactive mindset with a passion for connecting with people and driving innovation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills—you build credibility and trust easily. Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
