As the Weekend Director for our bureau in Washington, DC, you will lead the coverage and prioritization of stories throughout the day. Your role is pivotal in shaping the news narrative for our network and ensuring we provide our audience with timely, impactful and accurate coverage.  Your Role Accountabilities… Top-to-bottom editorial management of the day’s priority stories – including directing reporters, correspondents and editors, and clearing editorial and video elements for all of CNN’s digital platforms and TV.   Craft comprehensive coverage plans for breaking news and assign reporting targets. Lead on the execution of those plans, including hands-on editing when needed.  Monitor the competitive media landscape and put CNN in a position to lead on major stories. Responsible for ensuring that all editorial lands in a coordinated way on all digital platforms and TV.  Serve as the network’s subject matter expert on these ongoing stories, working with DC teams, other desks and show producers. Ensure that newsgathering resources, including reporters, producers and camera crews, are properly deployed and coordinate with all units at CNN to help direct those resources. Must have knowledge and understanding of hostile environment deployments for field teams, and ability to work within CNN’s systems governing these. Ensure that editorial meets CNN's standards. Develop the skillsets of direct reports, working to provide them ongoing training and development. Qualifications & Experience… 10 or more years of newsroom experience 3-5+ years of management experience College degree or equivalent industry experience Expert understanding of US political and policy landscape Exceptional editorial acumen and ability to interpret complex editorial issues, with strong writing and editing skills and an understanding of storytelling on multiple platforms Deep knowledge of journalism standards, libel and copyright laws. Experienced with budgeting and budget oversight. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Able to pivot quickly between assignments, juggle multiple storylines, and work in a fast-paced news environment 24 hours/ 365 days a year How We Get Things Done… This last bit is probably the most important! Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $113,750.00 - $211,250.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
