The Position Strategic/Sr. Strategic Sourcing Manager (energy/utilities) This is a hybrid role (3 days onsite, 2 days offsite). This role can be based in any of these locations (Indianapolis, IN, Tucson, AZ, Branchburg, NJ, Carlsbad, CA, Santa Clara, CA or in Pleasanton, CA). The official title will be Utilities/Sr. Utilities Procurement Manager. The Opportunity: This role sits within the Indirect Procurement Delivery group, which covers the core procurement activities from category management, strategic and operational sourcing, supplier management, contracting, content strategy definition, and execution. This group is comprised of many communities grouping categories of the same value chain or having commonality, including Research & Development, Commercial and Corporate Services, Digital & Technology, and Facilities. The communities are key enablers of strong category expertise while allowing flexibility in the procurement delivery response to the evolving needs of our customers. You will bring analytical thinking, planning, execution, and a strategic focus to the procurement sourcing and delivery capability area within Energy/Utilities. Using your specialized knowledge and in-depth expertise in a specific category or spend areas and procurement overall, you will proactively identify and drive strategies and approaches for managing and sourcing third-party spend requirements. You can also play the role of Category strategy owner in charge of driving, coordinating and signing the category strategy. You will collaborate with internal procurement (such as Customer Excellence, Insights, Analytics, Contracting, etc.) and business stakeholders to build and implement comprehensive category sourcing and spend management strategies that are aligned to business needs and functional objectives.  Work closely with other team members, as a peer coach, project, or workstream lead, to identify opportunities to aggregate customer demand, drive buying channel automation, deliver on day-to-day activities, and provide capacity, expertise, and oversight to productivity and other customer-oriented projects/solutions. You will play a variety of roles according to your experience, knowledge, and general business requirements, including but not limited to: You are a Category and Sourcing subject matter expert in Facilities and Utilities (Utilities Focus), conducting market and internal analysis to develop strategies, best practices, and guidance on tactical plans for how Roche should source and negotiate for third-party goods and services in order to satisfy stakeholder requirements and maximize the value for Roche. You are a Procurement delivery practitioner delivering and executing:  Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation: Lead and execute competitive sourcing for power and natural gas in deregulated markets. Familiarity with retail power and gas products and utility tariff structures.  Conduct strategic contract negotiation with retailers and utilities to secure optimal pricing, terms, and supply reliability. Market Analysis & Planning: Maintain a strong understanding of power and gas markets and infrastructure (ISOs/RTOs). Apply market intelligence to support long-term campus planning, capital projects, and utility infrastructure upgrades. Risk & Financial Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate energy price volatility. Oversee financial processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and invoice validation for all utility expenditures. Supplier Management: Manage critical supplier relationships with energy retailers and utilities, ensuring high performance, service reliability, and collaborative problem-solving. Sustainability & Compliance: Procure and manage environmental commodities (e.g., RECs). Support corporate targets by applying working familiarity with GHG protocol, SBTi, and RE100 standards to all procurement decisions, driving the company's decarbonization strategy. Who You Are Strategic Sourcing Manager (energy/utilities) Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline. 4-7 years of in-depth procurement experience in strategic sourcing, category management, project management, complex procurement contracting, and operational category efficiency projects. Demonstrated experience in managing regional or global cross-functional project teams. Proven financial and business acumen (i.e., total cost of ownership, cost modeling). Experience in procurement systems and processes. Proficiency and experience in Energy, Sustainability, Energy Markets, Renewables and knowledge of adjacent commodities. Skills in project management. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indiana is $79,800 - $148,200 of hiring range.  Sr. Strategic Sourcing Manager (energy/utilities) Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business or a related discipline. 7+ years of procurement experience in strategic sourcing, global category management, complex procurement contracting, and operational category efficiency projects. Solid leadership experience, extensive procurement experience and deep specific category knowledge in one or more categories. Experience in procurement systems and processes. Deep knowledge and experience in the Facilities and Utilities, especially Utilities commodity areas and knowledge of adjacent commodities. Skills in project management. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indiana is $99,400 - $184,600 of hiring range.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
