Job Title Manager, Software Development Engineering (Java Manager) Manager, Software Development Engineering We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to drive the development of our new initiative. As we launch our real-time payment capability and modernize our platform via the Cloud, you will be the bridge between complex architecture and high-performing execution. You will be responsible for the technical delivery, team health, and strategic growth of this critical program. What does a successful Engineering Manager do at Fiserv? You will lead a talented team of software engineers to build a scalable, microservices-based Cloud platform. As a leader, you won’t just manage tasks; you will partner with Product, Architecture, and Leadership to translate vision into tangible business value. You will be a champion for high availability, security, and—most importantly—your people. What you will do: People Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of 10 to 20 engineers. You will be responsible for hiring, performance management, mentoring, and creating a culture of continuous learning . Delivery Excellence: Act as an execution leader, ensuring the team meets roadmap milestones with high-quality, maintainable code. Technical Guidance: Oversee the design of microservices and real-time APIs, ensuring the architecture is resilient and scalable. Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with Product and Stakeholders to balance new feature delivery with technical debt and platform stability. Culture Building: Foster an engineering-first culture focused on automation, security-by-design, and proactive production monitoring. What you will need to have: Leadership Experience: 12+ years in progressive technology roles, with at least 3+ years specifically spent building and leading high-performing engineering teams. Management Mindset: Proven ability to manage large-scale teams (10+) and navigate the complexities of a large-scale organization. Technical Foundation: Strong foundational knowledge in the Modern Java Ecosystem (Spring Boot/Security) and Database management (RDBMS/NoSQL). Cloud & Architecture: Experience overseeing applications deployed via Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) on Cloud platforms like Google, AWS . Process Expertise: Mastery of Agile/Scrum and a deep understanding of DevOps/CI-CD pipelines. Communication: The ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and advocate for your team’s needs. What would be great to have: Payments Expertise: Experience in Banking, Financial Services, or the Payments industry. Real-time Systems: Experience with high-volume transaction processing (200+ tps) and messaging platforms like Kafka . Developer Advocacy: A passion for "shipping" software that solves real-world problems while maintaining clean, testable code. Mentorship: A track record of developing junior engineers into senior leaders.
