Job Summary: The Senior Manager, Design Governance & Operations leads the enterprise-wide governance framework and architectural compliance function supporting approximately 350 annual restaurant remodels across the system. This role ensures the consistent interpretation, enforcement, and operationalization of brand design standards throughout the development pipeline. Acting as a delegated authority of the Design Director, this position provides structured decision‑making, compliance oversight, and cross-functional alignment to protect brand integrity while enabling speed and efficiency in development. The Senior Manager plays a critical leadership role in safeguarding the brand’s built‑environment identity and ensuring scalable execution of design strategy across the portfolio. Roles & Responsibilities: Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the design governance framework that guides all remodel and reinvestment initiatives. Serve as the primary lead for interpreting brand design standards, architectural guidelines, and technical criteria. Oversee the review and approval process for design deviations, exceptions, and alternative solutions, ensuring alignment with brand intent. Maintain robust documentation of decisions, standards updates, precedent cases, and governance processes. Manage the architectural compliance workflow for ~350 remodel projects annually, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness. Establish operational mechanisms and controls to support scalable, repeatable, and high‑quality execution of design standards. Identify systemic issues across the pipeline and implement solutions that enhance development velocity without compromising design integrity. Partner with internal and external architects to resolve compliance gaps and elevate design quality. Act as a key liaison between Design, Development, Construction, Facilities, Operations, and other stakeholder teams. Facilitate clear communication and alignment on design standards, compliance decisions, and implications for development timelines. Represent the Design Director in governance discussions, cross‑functional planning, and enterprise-level decision forums. Provide direction and guidance to Design team members and external partners involved in design review and compliance activities. Support the evolution of brand design standards by contributing insights from field execution, governance trends, and portfolio needs. Leverage data and performance indicators to drive continuous improvement in compliance efficiency and overall design performance. Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Design, Construction Management, or related field. 5-7+ years of experience in retail, QSR, hospitality, or multi-unit development environments. 3-5+ years of experience in governance, brand compliance, or operational leadership roles. Experience in leading a team Strong understanding of architectural documentation, construction coordination, and standards-driven environments. Demonstrated experience managing high-volume, deadline-sensitive project pipelines. Great communication skills - Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and external partners.
