POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development and validation a quantum sensor system for space. This individual will join the Emerging Tech Team and work closely with physicists and hardware engineers to develop control system code, automated tests, and CI/CD pipelines. Additionally, this individual will be directly involved with custom PCB test and bring-up, working in the lab to debug and bring up PCBs and systems. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Deploy high test coverage and fully leverage our CI pipelines and hardware test beds to have confidence that your designs will work as designed Key contributor towards developing control system architectures for future quantum sensors Collaborate with firmware, software, and hardware design teams to capture requirements, Design and deploy electrical test benches for system integration. Perform compliance, robustness, and reliability testing on electronic subsystems. Support board bring-up and debugging efforts, providing feedback to design teams. Develop and maintain an automated test platform using Python. Operate and interface with a range of electrical and optical lab test equipment. Process and visualize test data, leveraging scripting and analysis tools to extract meaningful insights. Work within Git-based software development workflows to track, version, and collaborate on test software. Responsibility Details: Writing and debugging UART/SPI/I2C drivers Defining register maps for microcontrollers Reading datasheets for IC configurations Compiling and debugging Rust hardware peripherals Working with Rust firmware engineers to define architecture and drivers EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Embedded Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of relevant industry experience with a focus on hardware validation and system integration testing Highly proficient with at least one compiled language (C/C++/Rust). Rust is preferred, but expertise with C/C++ and an interest in Rust is acceptable Strong programming skills in Python and other scripting languages. Hands-on experience with optical and electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, DMMs, OSAs, and VNAs. Strong understanding of communication protocols (USB, I2C, SPI, serial comms, etc.). Ability to process, analyze, and visualize test data to drive design decisions and improvements. Comfortable working in Linux environments with command-line tools for scripting and automation. Collaborate with a cross-functional team to support product development from prototype to production Experience with Git and modern software development workflows. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in root cause analysis and debugging embedded systems. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in hardware test and validation. Experience with firmware integration, embedded system validation, and debugging. Experience with environmental reliability testing and compliance validation. Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards relevant to test and validation processes. Prior experience working with atomic, optical, or quantum technologies. Ability to travel to support remote test integration and commissioning as required.
