Job Title:  Social Media Associate / Paid Internship Contract Type:  3-month contract initially with strong potential for extension  Hours:  Flexible (3 – 5 days a week) 7.5 hours per working day  Location:  Street Child London HQ (minimum 3 days per week in the office and the remainder at home)  Pay:  National Minimum Wage in place at the time Street Child is seeking a highly motivated Social Media Associate with a strong instinct for social media, content creation, and digital storytelling. This is a social-first role, with approximately 75% of time dedicated to social media content creation, trend monitoring, and performance tracking, and 25% to broader communications support. We are looking for someone who lives and breathes social media — who understands what makes content land, what makes people stop scrolling, and how to translate real-world impact into compelling, platform-specific storytelling. This is not an internship where you ‘do the photocopying and make the tea’. You will be contributing directly to Street Child’s external communications from day one. The organisation has a strong track record of offering extended contracts and permanent roles to high-performing Associates. Candidates who applied to the previous Associate recruitment round and have a clear, specific interest in this Social Media role should submit a new, tailored application. Associate roles are paid at the appropriate National Minimum Wage rate and are initially expected to work 3 – 5 days a week during the first 3 months. This arrangement may be positively reviewed at the 3-month stage, especially in the case of excellent performance. You would be primarily working from our Central London office. Role Overview The Social Media Associate will play a central role in supporting Street Child’s digital presence and storytelling. This is a fast-paced, demanding role suited to individuals who are creative, proactive, and highly attuned to digital trends. You should be comfortable working at pace, taking ownership of outputs, and continuously refining your approach based on performance and feedback. You will gain hands-on experience in a high-performing communications team, with the opportunity to help shape how Street Child presents itself to the world. 75% – Social Media Support Create engaging, high-quality content for Street Child’s social media channels (including LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X and Facebook) Stay constantly up to date with social media trends, formats, and platform developments, proactively identifying opportunities to keep content fresh and relevant Support the development of more dynamic content formats (e.g. short-form video, reels, carousels) Draft compelling, platform-specific captions and messaging Monitor performance closely, tracking engagement, identifying what works (and what doesn’t), and adapting content accordingly Support real-time and reactive content opportunities, with the judgement to act quickly and appropriately 25% – Broader Communications Support Support fundraising teams with tailored content and messaging (corporate, public and philanthropy) Assist in drafting blogs, case studies, email content and campaign materials Help manage and organise Street Child’s digital asset management system (photo, video and content library) Contribute to wider communications outputs as required Key requirements: A strong, demonstrable interest in social media, content creation, and digital storytelling through academic, professional or personal channels Excellent writing skills, with a clear ability to adapt tone and messaging for different platforms and audiences A sharp eye for what makes content engaging, shareable, and effective Strong awareness of current social media trends, formats, and best practice Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities A proactive, flexible attitude and willingness to take ownership Demonstrable interest in building a career in the international development/humanitarian sector Diversity is important to us at Street Child. We especially welcome applications from, and expect to offer associateships to, candidates with backgrounds typically under-represented in the sector and/or reflecting the communities we seek to serve. About Street Child: Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Ukraine. Since 2008 we have helped over 1.6 million children to be safe, in school and learning. How to Apply: To apply for this fantastic opportunity, please send your CV and a compelling covering letter as a combined/single document (max 3-pages). Please also include a short, accurate statement on how you used AI to develop your application. CVs will be reviewed upon receipt. Please do not apply if for any reason it is impossible for you to start in-person in Central London for a minimum of 3-days a week in May or June 2026.
