This is a unique opportunity to study, earn, and gain real-world experience while supporting mission‑critical safety technology used in high‑security environments worldwide.About the ApprenticeshipAs a Field Service  Apprentice , you will:Be fully enrolled and supported in a TAFE‑recognised Certificate III in Electrical FittingWork 4 days per week on the job and attend TAFE training 1 day per weekGain practical field experience alongside highly skilled techniciansDevelop technical, customer, and teamwork skills in a professional environmentProgress toward a full‑time career with Smiths Detection upon successful completion of the 4‑year programThis apprenticeship is part of Smiths Detection’s long‑term career development initiative, designed to build future technical experts from the ground up.What You’ll Be DoingWorking within our Field Service Team, you’ll support the maintenance, installation, and repair of X‑ray and trace detection systems at customer sites, often within high‑security locations.Key responsibilities include:Attending weekly TAFE training and completing all course requirementsTravelling to metropolitan, regional, and remote customer sites, including overnight stays when requiredAssisting with troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing advanced detection equipmentPerforming preventative maintenance tasks in line with service contractsSupporting corrective maintenance and fault response activitiesTesting electrical components and circuitry using a multimeter, laptops, and embedded softwareDiagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults (24 volts or less)Replacing mechanical parts such as belts, rollers, motors, and generators, using lifting aids as requiredAssisting in new equipment installations alongside internal teams and external stakeholdersCompleting service documentation, reports, and compliance recordsParticipating in technical, safety, and compliance training (online and face‑to‑face)Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work environmentSupporting warehouse operations and spare‑parts trackingJoining team meetings, safety briefings, and calibration checksFrom your second year, you’ll begin developing the capability to:Work semi‑autonomouslyParticipate in the on‑call support roster, including occasional after‑hours work
