Job Description Job Title: Service Engineering Specialist Working Pattern: Full time Working location: Indianapolis, IN/Hybrid (3 days onsite on avg.) The AE Service Engineering team provides technical support for in-service events and proactive analyses to ensure safe operation and to eliminate future customer disruptions. In this role you would be responsible for collecting and analyzing data and event descriptions provided by field service reps and operators, coordinate efforts of design, performance, controls, and metallurgical engineers, determine root cause and corrective action, and providing technical information to program management, field service reps, operators, and OEMs. This role will be expected to lead the execution of Engineering Investigations (EIs), including Red Top (Safety) investigation which requires coordinating multidisciplinary teams to determine root cause utilizing properly scoped Root Cause investigation methodologies. As well as initiate approving Service Bulletins and Technical Variances, improve technical content of MMs and EMs, identify service-related product improvements, and proactively identify threats and take steps to eliminate them before they cause events in the field. What you will be doing Lead and mentor investigations into and identify root cause and corrective action for in-service events Lead internal activities to resolve OEM, operator or FSR technical inquiries Perform as subject matter expert for engine components and overall system Define and implement control programs and corrective actions necessary to maintain continued safe operation of the product Proactively support improving engine and component reliability utilizing maintenance data (AMC and on-wing LRU removal data) and trend monitoring Communicate the status of service issue investigations via technical briefings both internally and to OEM customers, operators, and airworthiness authorities Who we’re looking for: At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience; OR Master's degree in Engineering with 3+ years of experience; OR JD/PhD Must be U.S. Citizen to be considered for this role Preferred Requirements: Aerospace Background: Deep knowledge of gas turbine engine components, performance, and controls. Stakeholder Management: Confidence in presenting technical briefings to high-level OEMs, military customers, and operators. Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Experience with structured investigation methods (like Fishbone, 5 Whys, or Apollo) and metallurgical analysis. Safety & Compliance: Familiarity with FAA or EASA airworthiness regulations and the process of drafting Service Bulletins or Technical Variances. Reliability Data: Proficiency in analyzing Maintenance Manuals (MMs) and utilizing trend monitoring data (AMC/LRU removals). Cross-Functional Coordination: Ability to manage input from designers, performance engineers, and metallurgists to reach a consensus. Mentorship: Experience leading junior engineers or guiding complex technical teams through an investigation. Experience with Engine Maintenance (EM) and field service operations to ensure product improvements are practical for on-wing application.
