The Senior Director, Engineering & Quality leads engineering and quality outcomes to deliver the product roadmap through scalable, reliable, and cost-effective technology. This role provides strategic technical leadership, manages Engineering and Quality Directors, and partners closely with Product, Delivery, and Account teams to drive operational excellence, modern engineering practices, automation, and sustained product quality.\n Individual Accountabilities <ul> <li>Engineering Delivery & Execution: Own engineering outcomes that enable the product roadmap, ensuring predictable delivery and high-quality deployments in partnership with Product and Delivery.</li> <li>Technical Direction & Architecture: Set the technical direction for the business unit, ensuring scalable, resilient architecture and sustainable platform evolution.</li> <li>Quality Strategy and Governance: Own the quality strategy, quality management systems, and continuous improvement frameworks, including the vision to drive continued automation.</li> <li>Service Health & Operational Performance: Be accountable for platform stability, performance, and availability across production and pre-production environments.</li> <li>Technical Debt & Modernisation: Ensure technical debt is visible, prioritised, and actively reduced through refactoring and modernisation initiatives.</li> <li>Engineering Efficiency: Improve productivity through streamlined practices and tooling, automation, and effective code management practices.</li> <li>People, Capability & Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop Engineering and Quality leaders, build required capability, and drive alignment across Product, Delivery, Operations, Support, and Account Management.</li> <li>Risk & Quality Management: Proactively identify and mitigate engineering and quality risks ensuring delivery quality meets or exceeds customer expectations.</li> </ul> Qualifications and Experience<ul> <li>10+ years in software engineering and/or quality, with 5+ years in technical leadership and experience leading both engineering and quality functions</li> <li>Bachelors Degrees in Engineering, Computer science, or related fields</li> <li>Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale software platforms, ideally including content services or digital experience solutions</li> <li>Strong background with both cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred) and distributed systems (Linux-based environments preferred)</li> <li>Demonstrated accountability for engineering execution, quality outcomes and quality governance</li> <li>Deep understanding of modern software delivery practices (Agile, Lean, DevOps, CI/CD, etc.)</li> <li>Experience establishing engineering frameworks, standards, and practices across distributed teams</li> <li>Experience defining and scaling quality management strategies, including automation and shift-left practices</li> <li>Demonstrated success managing engineering teams supporting SaaS or digital experience platforms</li> <li>Proven track record of launching successful products, platforms, and/or client-facing service offerings</li> </ul> \nAbout Coates We are industry leaders who have won awards and set records.
